I don't have a blender, and I know blenders are fairly inexpensive, but this takes up so much less room and has so much more functionality than a blender. I do a lot of baking, and I have used the bowl that comes with it to chop nuts and even grind them fine for cheesecake crusts. I have the 200 watt-version of this product, and it is wonderful. Do it. It also works well to make graham cracker crumbs from whole graham crackers, because before I would have to put them in a bag and crush the heck out of them with a rolling pin.I haven't used it to puree soups or anything yet, but my husband originally convinced me to get it because he said when he was a kid, his friend had one and they used to mix hot chocolate up with it - that it makes the best hot chocolate, I guess. :)I know the Braun hand blender that I have works great and I recommend buying one, if you're thinking about it. DO it. :)
Bought this Braun MR430HC Multiquick Deluxe here on Amazon in March 200 8 and we were quite happy with it until recently, when it simply stopped working. We did not use it that often, and are surprised, given Braun's general impression of quality and durability. It comes with an array of handy accessories and seemed like a pretty fail-proof design (it only has one button). You can detach the tip and wash it in the dishwasher, which is great.
I bought a Braun hand mixer that came with a slightly bigger chopper and I hate it. I've had one of these for years and I would not live without it. The bowl is too big for small quantities such as salad dressing and takes up too much space ont he counter and in the fridge.I mainly use the chopper, but the stick blender comes in handy any time I want to puree soups or smooth out gravies. It emulsified salad dressings better than any whisk and there's no need to "dribble in" the oil. Just put all ingredients int he bowl, turn it on and in seconds you have perfectly emulsified dresssing.I like the size of the chopper unit too.mine lives on the counter top without being too obtrusive. You simply put the stick blender into the pot and puree in a second. It's so much simpler to use and clean up than a regular blender.
Truly a kitchen essential. (Note: sold here by an Amazon partner). Finally wore out the Chopper attachment.
It has completely replaced my traditional blender except for big pitchers of margaritas. I have also given 3 or 4 as gifts.BUT. Makes short work of so many kitchen tasks, clean-up is simple.
Back then I paid about $28 (on Amazon). Chopper/Spice mill and whisk attachments are also great. I have used it frequently for years.
you needn't pay the outrageous price quoted here. Google "Braun MR430HC" for a better price: under $50
I bought this blender twice because it is very useful and handy. It happened twice, I bought it, used it, then after a year (as if it's an expiration date or something) it stops working. Yet, it breaks really fast. The motor suddenly stops working. I will try another one, a stainless steel one this time as I realized I mostly use it for soups. Hope it'll last longer.
